GROUPWORK

Many groups of approximately 5 students each. In each group two or three students drive the project, do the bulk of the work (80%) and the others are effectively passengers and take care of the remaining 20% of the work. Those who contributes 20% always get more marks than the ones contributing 80% at the end of the day.
Did you experience the same thing in your groupwork environment?

  1. For groups to function effectively you have to assign each one of them a task to perform thus forcing him or her to contribute in a group.

  2. i agree with you hundred percent, most of the students who idle in the group work entirely depend on their colleagues and in the end acquire more marks than their counter parts. Some students would pass Honors degree with flying colors and register for master degree, and is only then that their performance is exposed.
I would suggest that when a group has been given a task to do, each member in the group should be given a chance to present their findings or how have they develop the project or steps acquired to do certain task.
Our students do well in the assignment than test because they copy from their friends without understanding and at the end same task is set in the task, they do not perform.
