COMPUTER-PHOBIA BY TEACHERS

The time of change has come, where we have to integrate technologies in our teaching and learning environment. Most educators are still "allergic to computers, etc" and to integrate these technologies in their teaching and learning.

The question will be: " Are educators still adhering to their old ways of doing things or just afraid of challenges?''

  1. Tom,I think we need to address ourselves to the cause of the allergy by teachers. There are quite number of challeges in the system which must be addressed in order to cure the allergy

  2. I fully agree with you Tom. Most of educators are so much stereotyped and afraid to venture new fields.Furthermore they are not even shaken up by technological transitions around them. They really need extreme prayers so as to can change their mindsets.

  3. Well I see this problem at a different perspective, most of this educators that you are talking about they don't even have computer literacy certificates , look at our fellow students , they are doing Hounours degree specialising in ICT. How many comment should you be receiving if this very same student who are doing honours were participating. To me it is a challenge when you know what to do . So it is not an allergy but lack of skill. The is a greater need now for the Department to train every teacher to be computer literate. To realised the objective of the draft policy on ICT it need people to be trained to use computer at first. When people knows how to use a computers then they will be able to know what other functions can they perform. The Department may talk about giving educators computer but if this vey same teacher does not know how to use this devices to me it is a futile excises. This is a fact for you to verify :How many people are participating on google and making comments on the very same blogs that we are writing ?
